According to TBR Football, Manchester United reportedly had an unexpected opportunity to sign Bayern Munich’s South Korean centre back Kim Min-jae this summer.
The Korean defender joined the German side in 2023 for around £51 million.
Bayern is currently accepting offers along with Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle, with United being warned about his availability.
Kim’s first season at Bayern under Vincent Company was impressive. The 28-year-old has established himself as a key element in his title-winning defense.
Man United linked Kim Min Jae’s moves
Kim’s future may be uncertain, as Bayern’s recent defender Jonathan Tar signs.
If United moves forward, they can negotiate a potentially short fee. However, his transfer price may still be solid, and there are concerns that limit United’s flexibility in other respects.
On a defensive stand, Reuben Amorim already has several options for the club.
Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven, Noussair Mazraoui and others are already at the club.
Signing another defender at this stage may not be the wisest decision from the Red Devils.
Already signing Matheus Cunha and targeting Bryan Mbeumo’s move, the Premier League giants will need to focus on midfield and wide offensive positions.
The future of Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony is uncertain at Old Trafford, and almost everything is likely to leave the club this summer, so they need a wider range of attacking position reinforcements than the new defenders need.
Bayern Munich defender will suit Amorim’s style
Kim’s attribute, which may have impressed United, is his ability to play the ball. He was in line with Amorim’s playing style at the club, but considering his free-to-use options, it doesn’t make much sense at this point to sign Kim.
Despite Bayern’s openness, United will face tough competition. The city, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and Newcastle are also following Kim.
If you’re really interested in defenders who won the league with Bayern Munich in 2024-25, they need to act quickly.
As far as other positions go, the Red Devils have identified nice goalkeeper Marcin Burka as the target to replace Andreonana of Old Trafford.
