Lewis Hamilton led Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc to the top of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix FP2 leaderboard after hitting the wall with a flying lap by both McLaren drivers.

Randnoris was the first to hit a barrier when he suffered an oversteer snap on a right-handed turn 4 leading to the castle section of the truck. His left rear tire slapped the barrier, causing suspension problems and slowly craved into the pit lane.

The repairs required were too broad to complete in the final 25 minutes of the session, so Norris only had seven laps in an hour, with no long-term simulations of the race.

Title leader Oscar Piastri was similarly gross when trying to piece together the quick rap. His first tour was ruined by carrying too much speed to Turn 15.

A rapid inspection in the pit lane cleared him to rejoin the session, but his follow-up lap was abandoned when he was trapped in turn 2, leaving him without any representative time.

The way Ferrari dominates the session became clear, with Hamilton rocking the rocket to the top spot after winning his second lap with the used soft set the benchmark at the 1M41.293S. Leclerc completed the Ferrari Practice 1-2, hiding him another 0.074 seconds ago.

Mercedes teammates George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli followed, but a half seconds ago. Russell may have been closer than 0.477 from the pace. The second flying lap was what he was in the purple first division at the time, but the moment of a monster climbing the hill at Turn 12 forced him to abandon his attempt.

Antoneri completed his first Friday without a crash since he reached within 0.009 of his faster teammates since his midseason break.

Oliver Bareman is an impressive fifth for Haas, and is a great time in the final sector, making up the flat-out section from turn 16 to the finish line. Despite the slower braking issues, the Bareman was 0.598s from the pace.

Max Verstappen was 0.609 seconds behind Hamilton in the quieter sixth, but Liam Lawson followed in the seventh, drifting just 0.087s on the Racing Bulls car.

Esteban Ocon was in the second Haas car with the 0.874S Adrift, in the second Haas car. Williams driver Alex Albon was another 0.01 seconds ago, ahead of Norris who crashed.

Carlos Signe was 11th ahead of Piastri. Piastri completed the session despite two close mistakes, including a long run on soft tires.

Isack Hadjar was 13th in line with Yuki Tsunoda, the driver who helped the driver separated by just 0.001 seconds.

Sauber’s Gabriel Boltreto placed 15th place on the 16th by Pierre Guthrie.

Lancestrol’s Aston Martin was a huge hit with the Turn 15 barrier, but the Canadians completed the session in 17th place ahead of Nico Halkenberg, Fernando Alonso and Franco Cora Pinto.
