Bumrah made the bold decision to miss two Test matches to manage his workload and avoid injuries that he suffered after playing all five matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Jasprit Bumrah’s decision was met with serious criticism, with many questioning his commitment to the Indian team and raising questions about his future in Test cricket.
Bumra tested India’s Leeds, Road and Manchester, earning 14 wickets on an average of 26. India went 1-2 in the fifth Test at the Kennington Oval in London, urging many to play another game.
But he didn’t do that, so India made four changes to Xi, where Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur and Anshul Kamboj were replaced by Prasidh Krishna, Karun Nairyl, Karun Nairy and Akash Deep.

According to a report from PTI, Bumrah is unlikely to be available for a five-match full Test series for the remainder of his career, with India’s next mission facing Australia in 2027.
India’s next two Test assignments are against the West Indies and South Africa, with the Gill-led side of Shevman playing two matches each in those series.
Speaking of whiteball cricket, India’s next big mission is the Asian Cup 2025 and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The BCCI reportedly recognized the “major risks” associated with the Bamura participating elliptical test. Therefore, they decided to manage his workload by letting him rest and making him available to the Asian Cup 2025.
“There’s the Asian Cup right around the corner and the T20 World Cup is there too. He wants to play those events. Given his body, he can’t play all the games. He needs to take care of his extra care.
“We need to have clear plans for how to manage our test careers in Bumura from now on,” said a BCCI source cited by PTI.

Ryan Ten Dochet, assistant coach of India’s national cricket team, recently said that the availability of Jaspuri’s Bumrah is a “complex issue” and decided to respect Pacer’s decision to play only three matches.
Overall, Bumura bowled 119.4 overs in the three matches he played, raising doubts about the paced spearhead where many get special treatment and get the chance to choose and choose a match.
The Indian Cricket Committee (BCCI) Selection Committee and other officials will meet and review the tour after the ongoing Test Series is over. The number one agenda of that meeting is expected to be the future of Test cricket Bumrah, and discussions will take place on it.
