Arsenal captain Martin Odegard has named a “complete” star to a great player in the club’s history.
Odegard will become the first Arsenal captain since Vieira to compete for the Premier League title
Patrick Vieira, whose final captain, Patrick Vieira, has been far too long in 2004 since the Gunners lifted the Premier League title, but Odegaard aims to end the 22-year wait this season.
Aside from a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Liverpool, the gunners got off to an ideal start to the season, introducing star quality to their teams during the summer transfer period.
Perhaps most importantly, Mikel Arteta finally got a new striker through the door, Viktor Gyoker joined from Sporting CP, and Swedish International got off to an impressive start, scoring three goals in two games at Emirates Stadium.
Following Thomas Part’s departure, it was also important to guide another top-center midfielder through the door. And Martin Zubimendi looked like he was just that, bagging the braces in the 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
The whole team has the opportunity to write names in history books by ending the long wait for the league title this season, and may place themselves alongside the likes of Vieira Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires, Sol Campbell and others as club legends.
But in an interview with Sky Sports earlier this year, Odegaard nominated another former gunner as the club’s greatest player ever.
When asked if Thierry Henry was the best player in Arsenal history, the Norwegian said:
“Yeah, I think I’m fair. What he did, and yeah, I think he could.
“He could influence the game in so many ways, he dribbled, scored goals, passed, he was, so you know, and I saw him playing this charity game.

Not only is he the best player ever for the Frenchman Arsenal, but he is also the best player in Premier League history, when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021.
The 48-year-old is the winner of the four Premier League Golden Boots, holding a joint record of assists in the Premier League season and chipping in at 20 in the 2002-03 campaign.

The 123-cap France International also scored several surprising goals with the gunners, playing a key role on the side that won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups during an era when Irish Alex Ferguson Manchester United was dominant.
While an Arsenal player eating up Henry’s achievements in North London would be a tall order, Arteta hopes his team will be able to wait a long time for the Premier League title this season.
