Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Patan has given a great revelation about the future of cricket between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma ahead of his White Ball Series with Australia. Patan revealed he had made a long call with Rohit Sharma about his future in cricket, adding that the batsman would like to continue playing in India.

There was speculation about the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. It was reported that Australia’s upcoming tour could be their last international series. However, Rohit recently passed the mandatory preseason fitness test at BCCI’s Excellence Center of Excellence amid rumors about his future.

“I’m following these fitness tests. This new test (the Bronco) isn’t easy either. By passing it, it means that fitness is top notch,” Irfan Patan told reporters.

“I made a long call to learn about his future plans and he said he was very enthusiastic about ensuring he continues playing. This guy is a great leader, outstanding whiteball cricket, ODI cricket. He is also a great leader.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from Test and T20IS – Irfan Pathan

Irfan Pathan said Rohit and Virat Kohli could face a lack of match practice in the 50-over format. With only 27 ODIs scheduled before the tournament, Patan pointed out that the long gap between the games could affect the rhythm.

“As I said earlier, age doesn’t matter if the player is appropriate or not. But the challenge is spending time on game time, because there are a lot of gaps in terms of playing 50 over cricket.”

“When it comes to playing in India, whether it’s Kohli, Rohit or Shami, there’s no problem with motivation, but what’s important is the amount of cricket that can continue to play cricket and game time in any format. Kohli and Rohit have retired from Test and T20I.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli aim to expand their ODI careers until the 2027 World Cup

Currently active only at ODIS, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli hope to prolong their careers from the 2027 World Cup to the 2027 World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia. Both retired from Test cricket earlier this year and were already away from the T20IS after India’s 2024 World Cup victory.

Their final appearance in India appeared in the 2025 Champions Trophy, with Rohit winning the team over New Zealand in the final. Since then, he has not played competitive cricket other than IPL 2025.

Rohit, who often spoke about his ambitions to feature in the next ODI World Cup, is set to return to the three-match ODI series against Australia starting October 19th in Perth on October 19th. However, maintaining match fitness and rhythm remains a challenge.
