Goyang, South Korea — Canada’s Brooke Henderson and Taiwan’s Weilin Su defeated Sweden’s Madelen Sagström and Ingrid Lindblad 4-3 on Saturday to earn a spot on the world team’s ticket to the International Crown semifinals.
With this win, the World Team now has two wins and two ties in the LPGA team event held at New Korea Country Club, giving them fourth place in Pool B.
In the subsequent match, the World Team’s Charlie Hull and Lydia Ko faced Sweden’s Maya Stark and Lynn Grant.
In other four-ball games, Japan faced South Korea and the United States faced Australia.
Heading into Saturday’s final round of four-ball games, the United States had already won the first four four-ball games and clinched a spot in the semifinals from Pool A.
On Friday, Americans Yerimi Noh and Angel Yin defeated Titikul and Pajari Anannarkhan 5-4, Titikul suffering his first loss after six straight wins in this tournament. Lilia Vu and Lauren Coughlin then won the Americans’ second four-ball match, defeating Chanetee Wanasen and Jasmine Suwannapura 3-2.
The tournament format sees seven countries and “rest of the world” teams competing in two pools. The teams and their players were determined by the women’s world rankings.
The top two countries from each pool will advance to Sunday’s semi-finals and final, which will consist of one foursomes match (alternating shots) and two singles matches.
Last week, Kim Sei-young won the BMW Ladies Championship, which was also held in South Korea. The LPGA Asia Swing continues next week in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and concludes in Shiga, Japan from November 6th to 9th.
