John Jones has retired. Anyway, says Dana White, CEO of UFC.
White has announced that the UFC’s incontroversial heavyweight champion, the most dominant light heavyweight champion in promotional history, and the best fighter of all time has officially cut his gloves. The news means Jones confiscated his heavyweight belt and interim champion Tom Aspinel has been promoted to incontroversial status.
Jones’ retirement claims that he and Aspinol will become the UFC’s top heavyweight, ending that Jones rose from 205 pounds to win an indisputable title fight with Cyril Gain and Stipe Myosic, and that Aspinol rose from 205 pounds to win an interim title match in which Aspinol improved the records of Sergei Pablovic and Kurt Braides. The match between the two seemed inevitable on paper, but Jones routinely dismissed Aspinel and said he had no interest in fighting to unify the belt.
Jones left, Aspinel was on the top of a heavyweight mountain, which now doesn’t matter.
As Jones hasn’t spoken himself about the announcement yet, the MMA community wonders if the “bone” is actually gone forever.
Check out the social media reaction to Jones’ retirement below.
John Jones has retired, but has there been nothing gathered for his announcement? I’m just having trouble with Dana’s clip of 3 seconds post fight… It looks like he’s coming back to me. #ufcbaku

congratulations. You deserve it
Now, let’s create the only battle that makes sense! Aspinel vs Almeida is an uncontroversial world title of HW titles
Gain ducked you and me in front of me, already fighting for the belt and lost two times, and his final victory was a robbery@aspinallmma @danhite @mickmaynard2 pic.twitter.com/ritrnu4ccj-Mailton Almeida “Malkadinho” (@malhadinho_ufc) June 21, 2025
Congratulations John Jones. You are a goat.
