Jonathan Kuminga sees herself on the stars she came up with in the 2021 NBA draft class, Cade Cunningham and Scotty Burns.
Jonathan Cuminga has a rather tenuous offseason. He and the Golden State Warriors are at odds with each other at the negotiation table.
Kuminga hopes to leave the Warriors in pursuit of a bigger role. However, the lack of offers to his restricted free agency left him to the mercy of the warriors.
The Milwaukee Bucks attempted to trade Kuminga, but the Warriors’ high prices kept them apart. We have not made any progress in trading either.
But what does Cuminga expect when he’s on his new team? According to the insider, the young forward considers himself very high, especially compared to his compatriots.
According to Ron Croic of the San Francisco Chronicle, Jonathan Cuminga sees himself at a high level among young NBA players.
In fact, Kuminga thinks herself on the same level as her 2021 classmates draft Cade Cunningham and Scottie Barnes. This may be a big reason why he and the Warriors are not meeting the conditions.
“He apparently thinks he’s on the level of Cade Cunningham Scotty Burns. So he should get that kind of contract. That’s really embarrassing. I think it’s bad for the warrior and bad for him.”
This contradiction between how Kuminga views himself and the way the warriors see him became a serious problem.
ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne encouraged Kuminga to choose the Warriors player option. However, Kuminga has great conditions to return to the team.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Jonathan Kuminga is not planning to return to the Golden State Warriors if it is used as a trading asset next season.
“Kuminga wants a player-friendly deal. It’s a signal that he’s not just a trade asset, but a building block. The word we heard from Kuminga’s side is “pawn.”
“He doesn’t want to sign a two-year, $45 million contract. In Team Options, it’s only obviously used to trade during the season. That’s not something he wants to sign up.”
The Warriors and Kuminga are located at different ends of the negotiation table. The longer this story is dragged on, the worse it gets on both sides.
Hopefully, both the Cuminga and the Warriors can reach an agreement that they are happy with both, and put this whole situation behind them.
