Crystal Palace striker Gian Philippe Mateta was the man in demand in the recently closed summer transfer window.
Impressed by Oliver Glasner’s team, the palace attackers are linked to their travels from Selhurst Park.
Premier League clubs Manchester United and Tottenham were both tied to the movement of French attackers.
Mateta has already marked the 2025-26 season with goals in a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, indicating that he is an important offensive weapon for manager Glasner.
It was then revealed that former Everton CEO Keith Wynes. Keith Wynes is currently working as a consultant.
Price tag for striker Jean Philippe Mateta’s name
Wynes claimed that Mateta was “worthy of over £40 million,” and that the palace was right to hold back when the Spurs made a slow move for him in the summer transfer window.
Wynes told a soccer insider:
“He’s one of the stars they couldn’t let go. They had already let the couple go, so I think he had to be there. I don’t think that for goal scorers, £40 million is the right price for him.
“He might be worth more than that, but he couldn’t let go, so I wasn’t surprised to see them stepping onto it.”
“He may go to a certain stage, but he will be more rated. He is a quality player and I think he will have a good season.
“Glasner’s Palace is about to build. Clearly Mateta likes Glassner and reacts well to his management team. The key to this is that Glassner continues to move forward.
“So we’ll see how the palace is formed. I think they can at least retain the similarity of most teams.
Crystal Palace is not planning to sell Star Strikers
Wynes said it’s not enough for a goal scorer with the mateta caliber while £40 million floats.
As the Premier League and European clubs are watching, Palace believes his value will only rise if he continues to function well.
The Spurs reportedly have been tracking Mateta for a while. Thomas Frank strengthened his attack options when Randall Koro Muani arrived at the transfer deadline, but he clearly sees Mateta as an attractive target.
However, the resistance of the palace suggests that they either want a much higher price or believe that Mateta is too central to sell Glasner’s immediate project at this stage.
