The Boston Celtics have already lost some free agents this offseason and hope that they will return to their rankings as the other Eastern Conference teams are getting stronger.
A year ago, fans fresh from the title were hoping that the Boston Celtics would become the next dynasty. Instead, the second apron and Jason Tatum’s torn Achilles took them a step back even their hopes for the playoffs at Jopardi next season.
After trading Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, the Celtics are expected to lose a work of Luke Cornett-like depth and lose Al Horford to the Golden State Warriors.
The best free agent signatures to date are not exactly screaming “favorites of 2026 titles.”
The Orlando Magic and the Milwaukee Bucks made the move to improve. The New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers will remain near the top of the meeting. The Celtics don’t have all hope lost, but it appears to have been handed over.
Celtics fans, don’t be afraid as you’re expected to suffer in just one year. Derrick White still plays the best role in the league, Jalen Brown is an All-Star, and Jason Tatum is expected to return for full after a year off.
Kevin Durant did that after tore Achilles in 2019. Why can’t you do Tatum?
For now, at least for now, the “dynasty” promoted by writers and media members seems to be a distant memory.
“I think now they look like a team that has a hard time making the playoffs.
He’s not the only one who has no faith in Boston next season.
“Boston, you said they might have a hard time making the playoffs,” Brian Windhorst added before offering optimism. “I know. I think they still have pretty good talent for their roster, and the East is in fluidity. But I say my position on this is identified assuming that Jaylen Brown’s trade hasn’t come.
The Celtics aren’t looking forward to next season, but they should be able to avoid the luxury tax and re-tool on 2026-27.
In 2019, the Golden State Warriors held the NBA Finals. In the next two seasons, Stephen Curry missed a fair amount of time, Kevin Durant signed with the Net, and Klay Thompson sat for two seasons. Dub went 54-83 during those seasons and missed the playoffs twice.
Then in 2022, they marched through the playoffs, winning their fourth title, closing the dynasty.
The Celtics’ current core lacks three rings to boast, but when they’re healthy, White, Tatum and Brown are the elite groups.
Remember, the Celtics were able to miss out on the draft pick and add another key player basically for free. They own their picks in 2026 and 2027.
“They’ll have to work to rebuild the teams around them,” Windhorst admitted before offering optimism. “They’re really good. They’re the core of the championship. They can get back to the summit.”
