NBA fans were able to eventually see LeBron James and Kevin Durant on the same NBA team, just like the Miami Heat dives.
The Miami Heat is a team in the reconstruction phase. After Jimmy Butler’s intense fever departure, President Pat Reilly knew they had to go in a different direction.
The fever failed to land Kevin Durant despite their best efforts. And like many of their negotiations, the Heat didn’t want to give up on Kel-El Wear, among other young assets.
Some believe that the hot Durant is not yet ready to compete for the NBA championship, but others disagree.
The Miami Heat will need to focus on developing young talent next season. But in 2026, the heat has the opportunity to shock the NBA world.
And they were able to do so by redeeming Kevin Durant’s situation as the Houston Rockets shocked the fans with their latest stance on the superstar.
According to ESPN’s Tim McMahon, the Houston Rockets are hesitant to offer Kevin Durant a maximum contract extension.
McMahon hasn’t ruled out the final expansion, but the Rockets think they’ll try to cut Durant.
“The Rockets aren’t going to be all-in by all looks. From what I’ve heard, they’re not all-in-a-Kevin Durant extensions.
“Now that doesn’t mean it won’t happen, but KD isn’t going to push a full Max. I don’t know that Rocket will put anything on a table close to Max.”
If the Rockets don’t give Durant what he wants, then perhaps another team, a team with a lot of cap space, could land him alongside another legendary superstar.
What if the Miami Heat just signed Kevin Durant as a free agent in 2026? I know Pat Riley is targeting the stacked 2026 free agent class.
Durant’s landing could be a pretty coup. However, the heat is projected to have more than $80 million in cap space, allowing you to sign another big star.
Why can’t he reunite with LeBron James? The Lakers plan to walk free agency with LeBron James next summer.
Miami is the premier destination for famous free agents.
Given that the two stars are about to close their careers in another NBA championship, they were able to team together in Miami, where the Heat already has a strong base.
By pairing Durant and Lebron with Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro or Kel’el Ware without giving up on you, you can create a hanging Championship 5 with the best in the East.
Will this movement pass? It’s difficult to convey. However, heat has the opportunity to form one of the best tandems in NBA history when playing cards correctly.
