According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United reportedly declined the opportunity to sign Columbia striker John Duran on loan this summer despite players being offered to them.
Duran had an eventful year, leaving Aston Villa in a £65 million deal for Saudi professional league giant Al-Nassr during the January transfer period.
Since arriving in the Middle East, the Columbian forward has been impressed, scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances.
Man United refused the opportunity to sign John Duran
Despite its success in Saudi Arabia, Duran reportedly is eager to return to Europe this summer, and hopes to continue developing in a more competitive environment.
Romano spoke on his YouTube channel and revealed that Al-Nassr offered Duran to Manchester United on a loan agreement, but the Red Devils decided to take over the opportunity.
“Man Utd was offered the possibility of signing Jhon Duran by Al Nassr on his first loan agreement covering his salary.” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“However, Man Utd has decided to decline the possibility of focusing on a variety of targets.”
United’s decision is somewhat surprising given the club’s well documented search for strikers.
The club is actively tracking multiple striker targets over the summer, including sports Victor Gyoker and Eintrohat Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitique.
Reuben Amorim’s side focuses on other targets
The Red Devils are also approaching the signature of Brian Mbeumo from Brentford.
One of the reasons behind United’s decision to reject Duran is reportedly the financial demands of the deal. Al-Nassr had requested that the club that would take the striker on loan be covered for his full wages. Duran is currently making around £330,000 a week.
A high salary, coupled with United’s preference for prioritizing other targets with a clearer fit in the system, has waned the club’s opportunity.
