Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim has admitted that he has allowed fans to beat the traffic to those who had to leave last night’s match against Lyon early.
The Red Devils staged an incredible comeback against the League One Giants in the thrilling extra time that they scored five goals.
Man Utd surrendered a 2-0 lead in normal times, bringing the total to 4-4. Lyon looked to be heading for a victory after scoring twice in the extra time.
But surprisingly, Amorim’s team staged a memorable comeback with three very late goals to turn the ties around and book their place in the Europa League semi-finals.
Some Manchester United fans missed one of the club’s great comebacks
Amorim admitted to being inspired by his famous late comeback with Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final, and saw it before this week’s Clash vs. Lyon.
Even if this wasn’t as big a stage as the Champions League final, it’s undoubtedly going down United history just for all the pure drama.
There are probably more than a few supporters for MUFC.
“To get inspiration for these moments, I was watching the 1999 documentary again,” Amorim told TNT Sports after the game, according to a quote from BBC Sport.
“It was a great night. I think the other player was finished, 4-2, but it never ended here. I felt that everything was possible here.”
He added:
“We know we don’t deserve every critic and deserve every critic, but we have time to make something special for this season.”
United will play Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals of the Europa League.
