The Golden State Warriors are not the ideal landing spot for coveted free agents, Kevin O’Connor says.
For some reason, the Golden State Warriors did not move this offseason. In fact, when things stand, they are the only team that doesn’t sign trade or free agency.
The Warriors were inactive despite Draymond Green providing a blueprint for building around Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler.
And the longer they wait, the more they have to deal with it on this roster. After losing Kevon Rooney in the Pelicans free agency, the Warriors now have an even bigger gap in their central position.
What’s worse is that they don’t play the ball with other teams. The Warriors refuse to sign and trade Jonathan Cuminga to King Sacramento.
But now things are getting so bad that even actively available free agents are discouraging them from signing with them.
Kevin O’Connor discussed on the Yahoo show Damien Lillard about where he would sign now that he has become a free agent.
When discussing rumors connecting him to the Golden State Warriors, O’Connor quickly explained why it was a bad idea.
He reminded fans that Steve Kerr’s theatrical style is centered around Stephen Curry, and other players need to do a lot.
That load will be too much for Lillard, who will be away from Achilles’ injuries next season.
“He’s connected to the Warriors. I don’t like fit, I’m playing behind Stephen Curry.
“How Steve Kerr uses Steph in action… Let’s remove that load from you after you suffer such a catastrophic injury. Then let’s relax a little more.”
O’Connor spoke more about Damien Lillard’s future on his show. He believes the Miami Heat or the La Lakers are suitable for him. Specifically, with the Lakers, O’Connor mentioned how much work Luka Donsic will do to set up Lillard and other teammates.
“I’m leaning towards Miami and the Lakers. Luka can carry everything there. He can be the second son behind him.
Lillard has promised a team that will return to the same level once he recovers from his injury. And with the Lakers, he could potentially become a good security guard along with Luka Donsic.
However, signing Lillard can be difficult given the Lakers’ salary cap restraint. However, Lillard managed to go to the Miami Heat. The Miami Heat was the destination I wanted to go to when I first requested trade from the Portland Trail Blazers.
Wherever Lillard goes, he must wait to go to court when he recovers from a serious Achilles injury.
