Liverpool suffered back-to-back retreat as they saw their hopes of securing a treble in a week had been crushed.
They crashed out of the FA Cup in the fourth round against Plymouth Argyle last month, knocking out the Champions League last week with a penalty to Paris Saint-Germain before losing to the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle United.
Now, the focus is all about seeing it, as only the Premier League title is left to compete. They currently have a 12-point lead at second-place Arsenal, and it looks like the race is over, but the form these days is worried about the slots.
Behind the scenes, another problem needs to be resolved. This is the contract status for the three biggest stars: Mohamed Sarah, Virgil Vandik and Trent Alexander Arnold.
The trio are two months away from leaving the club for free, and there are no clear advances in contract consultations with the club or players.
David Ornstein is offering an up-to-date update on the Liverpool star
According to Athletic’s David Ornstein, there are no significant developments regarding Sarah’s contract renewal. However, there is no official confirmation of progress, but this does not indicate a stalled negotiation.
Liverpool remains optimistic about reaching an agreement with their star forward, as both the club and Sarah reportedly share a mutual desire to continue their successful partnership.
The proposed two-year contract extension remains on the table, but it is important to finalize the terms. Despite speculation that continues to move Sarah to the Saudi Arab League and Paris Saint-Germain, sources close to the situation firmly dismissed such reports.
In a recent Q&A session, Ornstein provided insight into the current state of discussion, saying:
“It’s not that I personally realize. That doesn’t mean there’s nothing. It may be that it’s not attracting media/public attention yet.
“For a while, Liverpool knows they are optimistic that they will reach an agreement, because they hope to stay with Sarah in the end, and believe he is happy and wants the same thing.
“Of course the numbers need to be correct (I think it’s an extension of the proposed two years), and it was clearly not easy, but so far there has been nothing to indicate that the lecture has stopped or that it has not moved in a positive direction.
“In addition, when we check out rumors/reports/suggestions that Sara could be set up for a Saudi Arabian professional league or PSG, we tend to receive fairly immediate and solid denials.
“I don’t think the ultimate defeats of the Champions League and the EFL Cup will have any impact on the outcome or timing, just like VanDijk and Alexander-Arnold.”
Mo Salah has a historic individual season
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Sara continues to provide outstanding performances and strengthens her position as one of the best players in the world.
In the Premier League, he started all 29 games, scored 27 goals, provided 17 assists, and averaged an astonishing 0.93 goals per game. Over all competitions, his contributions increased with 32 goals and 22 assists in 43 appearances, setting a new record for goal involvement in a single Premier League campaign.
As Sarah enjoys an even more incredible season, Liverpool wants to secure his long-term future and ensure that their amulets will be the cornerstone of their ambitions for years to come.
Fans hope for an official announcement to confirm that his extension will arrive sooner than it will be slower.
