Hugo Ekitike’s move to Liverpool has become one of the most popular moves this summer’s transfer period.
In particular, rumors swirled that Newcastle United might be in Paul’s position before Liverpool’s plunge.
But now, much of that chatter seems to have been exactly that noise. Ekitike himself moved forward to set the record straight, putting an end to the swirling narrative, and clarifying exactly how things unfolded.
Has Ekitique approached Newcastle United?
Some believed that Ekitique might have been waiting for Newcastle to make a move.
However, in conversations with the French media via Canal+ reported by Foot Mercato, Ekitike was clear, and there was never a moment when he joined Newcastle, Liverpool has always been his destination.
“Why Liverpool instead of Newcastle? That was my choice, that’s what I wanted.” He said.
“I had more feelings to come here and I knew it was the right place for me at the right time. I wanted to go back to the top level and be better equipped, more prepared in every way. And I don’t think I was wrong.”
The 23-year-old attacker took off into his career at Anfield. In seven games in all competitions, the French have already scored four goals for Arne Slot’s team.
The French attacker was only moved by Liverpool over his heart
Ekitike explained that attending Liverpool felt like the right time and the right place for him. He spoke about having strong “emotions” about movements and said that was what he really wanted.
Ekitice, who had not been impressed with a big club like Paris Saint-Germain in the past, was sure that joining Liverpool was the right move to take his career to the next level this summer.
There were no serious consultations or agreements with Newcastle, which came nearby. His statement contradicts many of the previous stories built in the media.
