It appears Kevin Durant was not the first superstar of the Houston Rockets Radar this offseason.
The Houston Rockets have shown their intention to make their biggest splash this offseason and compete for the championship.
Hours before Game 7 in the NBA Finals, the Rockets traded for Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns.
This was followed by the Rockets thriving in free agency and snapped several famous signatures, including poaching Lakers’ Dorian Finney Smith.
But Durant was their famous arrival, but he wasn’t their first choice as he wanted another superstar before the team said no.
Houston Rockets GM Rafael Stone was recently asked about playing Giannis Antetocomo in the first half of the offseason.
However, Stone confirmed that the Rockets quickly got no while talking to Milwaukee Bucks GM.
“No. I deal with John Holst (Bucks GM) a lot. I really like him. John was very clear that they didn’t do anything, so that was it.”
After this quick rejection, it can be speculated that the Rockets moved to put together the package to land Kevin Durant.
Stone doesn’t necessarily provide a timeline for events, but you can imagine that the rocket that gets no from the Bucks was before Durant’s move.
It would be particularly difficult to try and land Giannis after Durant.
Such a report will only put more pressure on Kevin Durant to deliver to the Houston Rockets next season.
The Rockets infringed on building plans to land Durant, departed from a youth-oriented approach and landed a genuine superstar.
The 38-year-old star does everything with his strength to become a team player. In fact, Durant will cut his pay marks next season to renew his contract.
However, these contract issues could easily be eradicated as Durant continues to lead the Rocket to the NBA Championship.
