Ian Garry thinks Carlos Plates is a kitter.
After shortening for the first time in his career, “The Future” will start bouncing off as he takes on the Golden Child of Fighting Geek at UFC Kansas City on Saturday night.
It’s a big moment for both fighters. In particular, they may be able to surge into the top 10 welterweight division and set the stage for their first shot in UFC Gold.
Of course, Garry isn’t going to make it happen.
In the weeks leading up to the headliner in “The City of Fountains,” Garry blows Plets off to Keat, accusing the Brazilian of succumbing from the fight when he got a little tough. “The Future” doubled his comments during UFC Kansas City Media Day on Wednesday, and promised to put the stars in a position where he was desperate to throw a towel.
“Look, his team is called a fighting nerd. They do the same, but they’ve never seen a fight I quit halfway through a fight,” Garry said. “When I saw it, he put his hand in the air, he waved to the reference and said, ‘I’m done.’ I’ve never seen it in MMA now.
“Well, let’s show you the real Carlo too. He quits when it gets difficult, and on Saturday night I’m going to put him where he has to make his choice.
The basis for calling Garry’s plantes “kitter” comes from the early battles of the Brazilian career when he signaled the judge that he was finished.
Obviously, there have been a lot of changes since. Plets currently has his final four victories within the Octagon, all with 11 wins, all knockouts.
