Ian Machado Garry’s confidence is as high as ever after booking a matchup against one of the Welterweight Division’s hottest fighters.
On Tuesday, the UFC announced that Garry will compete against the Carlos Award in a welterweight match that will serve as the new headliner for UFC Kansas City on April 26th.
Garry is currently ranked 6th in MMA Fighting Global Rankings. Prates isn’t ranked, but it sparked a big stir in 2024 from its incredible UFC debut campaign.
Following the announcement of the match, Garry took him to Instagram to issue a warning to the stars.
“I’m excited,” Garry said. “Why? UFC goes, ‘Oh, we need someone. Who do we need? Who do we call?” You call me.
“Let’s go to Kansas City. Ireland, get tickets, get flights. Brazil, get tickets, get flights.”
Like Pleats, Garry began his UFC career with an impressive unbeaten streak, winning his first eight fights against the promotion before coming across undefeated Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 this December. Rakhmonov defeated Garry by a unanimous decision, but the highly competitive three-round match hardly hurt Garry’s reputation.
Prates, along with Caio Borralho, Mauricio Ruffy and Jean Silva, are members of a prolific fighting nerd team, winning 11 straight fights overall. On his latest outing this November, “nightmare” required under the round to knock out welterweight veteran Neil Manny.
