This is a major blow to the South African national cricket team, with 31-year-old spin bowling all-rounder Prenelan Sabren being reported for suspicious behavior.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the developments on Prenelan Subrayen through a press release on Wednesday, August 20th.

He looked decent in his ODI debut game and bowled good lines and lengths. The offspinner bagged the first wicket of his ODI career by dismissing explosive Australian batsman Travis Head.
On the first ball of the eighth, he folied Travis’s head with a good delivery. The Australian batsman was confused by Grobeman’s Ryan Rickelton. He bowled all 10 overs of his quota in his debut game, making 46 runs while choosing one wicket.
However, this was not Prenelan Subrayen’s first international game. He played one Test match between Zimbabwe and South Africa in July 2025, and chose four wickets.
South African offspinner Prenelan Subrayen reported on the suspect’s bowling
In an official media release, the ICC said match officials had “specific concerns about the legality” of the bowling action of the Proteas Spinner in the first ODI against Australia.
Prenelan Subrayen receives an independent rating for his bowling action at an ICC certified test facility and must obtain clearance before playing international cricket.
“South Africa’s offspinner Prenelan Subrayen is reported during the suspect’s bowling action at the first ODI against Australia in Cairns on Tuesday, August 19th,” the ICC said in an official media release.
“The report of match officials specified concerns about the legality of Sublane’s actions.”
“The bowler will receive an independent evaluation of his bowling action at the ICC-certified testing facility,” the ICC said.

Keshav Maharaj destroys Australia
South Africa scored the ODI series opener against Australia with a large margin of 98 runs as veteran spinner Keshav Maharaj wiped out Australia’s batting unit with a five-wicket haul.
Speaking after the game, Protea captain Temba Bavuma praised his team’s good all-round performance and made a special mention to Keshav Maharaj about his amazing bowling. He explained in detail:
“Good all-around performance. I think we did a good job with the bat. The wickets were slow and we were doing well at two paces. We tried to adapt and the bowlers came in and did the work. It wasn’t a bad thing to lose.
“The boys (spin-bearing) have made me look good in their decisions with their experience with Australia, with top guys like Ball having weapons in spin. Today has been a good thing for us.
