On Sunday (October 11), England defeated Sri Lanka by 89 runs to extend their winning streak in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. Nat Silver Blunt’s side completely outperformed their co-hosts in Colombo, reclaiming top spot on the points table.
Captain Silber-Brant led from the front with a sensational century, while spinner Sophie Ecclestone bowled an impressive 4-17.

England, who were asked to bat first, fell to 49/2 after 10 overs and found themselves in a precarious situation. England’s opening pitchers Amy Jones (11 points) and Tammy Beaumont (32 points) both started but could not make the most of their efforts.

Sri Lanka also had an opportunity to dismiss Shiver Brandt cheaply, but they dropped her for three points and she was punished by giving away 117 points.

In an innings where no other England batsman could score more than 32 runs, it was Siver-Brunt’s century that ultimately made the difference in the match. With wickets falling at regular intervals at one end, the England captain initially remained cautious.
England were 179/6 at the end of 40 overs, but Siver Brunt then accelerated. As a result, England scored 49 runs in the last five overs and finished at 253/9, the highest score at the R. Premadasa Stadium in the ongoing tournament.
England bowlers dismantle Sri Lanka
The total of 253 runs ultimately proved to be more than enough as England defeated Sri Lanka by just 164 runs. Sri Lanka suffered a big blow early in the chase when talismanic captain Chamari Atapattu was forced off with an injury.
However, openers Hasini Perera and Harshita Samarawickrama kept the team in the lead until the former was dismissed for 35 with a score of 95/1. After three points, Samarawickrama was also sent off and England took the lead.
Athapastu returned in the middle but left after 15 minutes so nothing much changed and the team were left reeling at 116/5. Sri Lanka continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and were eventually all out for 164 runs in 46 overs.
