Conor McGregor is talking about his return to the octagon again.
After McGregor failed to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 last year, he embraced the reality that everything, broken pinky toes, sports fans are ready to move up, and that “notorious” will never compete again.
Unfortunately, McGregor himself didn’t want to accept it.
Shortly after declaring his candidacy for Ireland, “Mystic Mac” returns to choosing to fight Chandler, claiming that the two still have “unfinished business” in X.
Ilia Topria, who had a significant share of her interactions with the Irishman, doesn’t want McGregor to fight again, but doesn’t want to end her MMA career with a losing streak.
“He doesn’t want to leave the sport in defeat,” Topria told Joe Rogan while appearing on the JRE podcast. “Is that right? I think he’ll come back, get the victory and retire in the octagon.”
McGregor’s final victory within the Octagon came through a 40-second knockout from Donald Serone at UFC 246 in January 2020. He then dropped him 1-4 on the final five outings with consecutive losses against Dustin Poilier.
Conor McGregor teases another return, but Topria prepares a shot in two divisions of glory
Meanwhile, Topuria is gearing up for the opportunity to become a two-division champion. After vacating the featherweight title earlier this year, “Elmatador” is gearing up for a shot of Lightweight Gold, which is rumored to be down to UFC 317.
Perhaps Topuria could challenge the ruler Islamic Makachev, in order to challenge the Welterweight Crown, just as Topuria did.
If so, Topuria couldn’t find a toe toe going with original 155-pound champion Charles Oliveira.
With UFC 317 only a few months away, it should not be too far from the official announcement, but if you slice it either way, Topria appears to be finding International Battle Week in Las Vegas.
