Aston Martin Ambassador Pedro de la Rosa laughed at the rumours that linked Fernando Alonso’s shocking return to Alpine in the 2026 Formula 1 season.
Two-time world champion Alonso visited his former employer Alpine several times over the Canadian Grand Prix weekend, sending F1 rumors to overdrive.
Alonso won both his world titles with Alpine in his previous Renault outfit in 2005 and 2006, and won two more spells with Enstone from 2008 to 2009 to 2021 to 2022.
The 43-year-old Spaniard, whose career continues by Alpine team boss Flavio Briatore, has signed with Aston Martin until the end of 2026.
It is understood that Alonso visited Alpine hospitality for lunch with his parents who jumped into Montreal for a race.
De La Rosa shared a photo of Alonso’s parents in the caption alongside Briatore on Twitter.
He included “rumorrows” and “silly season” in the hashtags.
What did David Croft say?
In his commentary on the final practice at the Canadian Grand Prix, Croft stated:
“It’s resurfaced in the paddock this morning. Fernando Alonso has entered the Alpine camper four times this weekend.
“We’re not just looking at his old mate Flav (Briator), despite his mom and dad in town. I’m sure they’re catching up a bit.
“Is there anything going on where we can see Fernando Alonso return for the fourth time at Enstone? Look at that space. It’s just a paddock rumour.”
Andy Cowell, CEO and team principal of Aston Martin, quickly downplayed Alonso’s visit to Alpine.
“Fernando can step into the garage and he knows a lot of people up and down the pit lane,” Cowell told Sky Sports F1.
“I am also pleased with the fact that he has a contract with us next year.
