Jason Cundey has suggested Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven is a better player than Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk.
The Liverpool defender is regarded as one of the best defenders to have ever played in the Premier League, and is often compared to legends such as John Terry and Rio Ferdinand. However, Cundy feels the Dutch international is not the best defender in Premier League history. He also suggested that his compatriot Van de Ven was better.

Kandi told talkSPORT: “Van Dijk is not world class and he’s not for me. I said it before, man. No, I don’t know. He’s overhyped. Van Deven is a better centre-half than Van Dijk.”
“Here’s the thing, right? This isn’t the first time, right? There’s a lot of goals I’ve seen, right? People are saying he’s the best defender of all time. That’s where he’s overrated. I’ll tell you right now, he’s not the best defender of all time.”
Van de Ven is not better than Van Dijk
There is no doubt that the Tottenham defender has performed very well since joining the club, but the 24-year-old is yet to prove himself in the UEFA Champions League. It would be foolish to suggest that he is a better defender than the Liverpool captain, who has won two league titles and the UEFA Champions League trophy while contributing significantly in every season since joining the club. He also finished second in the Ballon d’Or rankings behind Lionel Messi.
There may be question marks as to whether he is the best defender to have ever played in the Premier League, but there is no doubt that he is far better than the Tottenham star. The 24-year-old Tottenham defender is a huge talent and has a bright future ahead of him. He may develop into a superstar in the future, but he is clearly not at the level of a Liverpool star at the moment.
