Manchester United legend Gary Neville has argued that Arsenal needs a signature like Martin Zubimendi this summer to replace Gorginho.
Jorgionho is coming towards the end of his contract with Gunner and as he is not younger, it probably makes sense that he will not be given a new deal.
Still, Neville feels that there really is no other person who can give them those qualities of the ball, and critics emphasize the need to bring Zubimendi to play the role.
Neville discusses his deal with fellow great Paul Shoals and finds himself in a disagreement with his old teammate.
The Shoals felt there wasn’t anything special about Zubimendi to justify bringing Arsenal in when he already had Declan Rice and Thomas Party.
Should Arsenal sign Martin Zubimendi?
However, Neville made Zubimendy’s claim, but admitted that he was surprised by what the Shoals were saying.
“I’m surprised you say it, I’m really surprised you say it,” Neville said in a duplicate.
“I really don’t believe Rice or Party is good at receiving the ball just like some of the other midfielders in the Premier League.
“I think Declan Rice is a great player and Thomas Partey is a very good player, but I don’t think anyone in the top game can properly control a football game.
“I think they’re really struggling with that. I think Gorguinho is the best of them. I’m surprised you haven’t seen it. They need someone to control the ball and keep moving.”
Arsenal needs more than Zubimendi this summer
Arsenal will likely need to plug that Jorgiño gap in the middle, but there are other positions that are undoubtedly more important for the summer.
Mikel Arteta’s side has clearly lacked a reliable goalscorer for some time, so a striker who can score 25 or more goals in the season appears to be a must.
Not only that, the AFC definitely needs a wider and better threat to come in and take the pressure off of Bukayosaka, with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Torosad, and someone comes in and replaces.
