The former NBA player is comparing Houston Rockets star Kobe Bryant, who had a terrible series against the Houston Rockets.
The first round series of the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors spent seven games winning a contest to reach that conclusion.
However, many will argue that the series should not be expanded to seven games. After all, the Rockets were the second seed in the Western Conference.
The key reason behind the Rockets’ end mise was the overwhelming performance of fourth-year guard Jalen Green. Many have urged the Rockets to say goodbye to the 23-year-old in the offseason.
There’s no doubt that Green had a hard time moving forward throughout the series.
After all, Green was limited to just 8 points with an overwhelming 3-for-8 shooting display. Despite his poor performance, former NBA player Lou Williams hopes fans will be patient with Green.
Williams cited the example of a young Kobe Bryant and cited how the Los Angeles Lakers’ patience ultimately helped the franchise win five NBA championships in 20 years.
“I’ve heard of them moving him. The only way to consider moving a guy like Jalen Green is to get Ja Morant, Kevin Durant, or one of these guys, what’s obviously a franchise changer.
“Otherwise, you stay put. You hold the card where you are. You have a nice young nucleus.
He added: “Imagine if the Lakers turned their backs on Kobe when they performed how they played against the Utah Jazz when he was such a young player.”
Bryant is often considered one of the greatest playoff performers of all time, but he went on a terrible outing between the 1997 Western Conference semi-finals vs. the Utah Jazz.
Mamba is infamous with four airballs in just five minutes. But today, fans remember his other achievements more fondly than his horrifying introduction to the world in the postseason.
He enjoyed good spells in the regular season, averaging 21.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game, but Green didn’t come down in the playoffs.
Certainly, he started playing and playing all seven games in the series, but Green’s performance was more harmful than good for Rocket.
The previous second-place overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft received 13.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game in the opening round.
But the biggest complaint the fans had about his game was his terrible shooting. Green shot just 37.2% from the field and a terrible 29.5% from the three-point line.
