Many tributes have been paid by advanced F1 players following the death of former team owner and expert Eddie Jordan.
The founder of the Jordan Grand Prix team passed away in Cape Town at the age of 76 on Thursday following his battle with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. The Jordanian eponymous team entered the 250 Grand Prix, selling it in 2005, earning four victories with the best finish in the driver and constructor championship before becoming a television expert and entrepreneur.
“We are deeply saddened to hear about Eddie Jordan’s sudden loss,” F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said. “With his never-ending energy, he always knew how to make people smile.
“Eddie is the hero of the F1 era, and he is deeply overlooked. In this moment of sadness, my thoughts and the whole Formula 1 family are with his family and loved ones.”
One of Jordanian enemies in the 1990s and early 2000s helped secure the service of Michael Schumacher from Jordan in 1991.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of Eddie Jordan,” Briatore said. “Eddie is a great individual and has brought smiles to the entire Formula 1 paddock for decades. I’m so overlooked Eddie and his memories of his presence and time spent on track throughout the Formula 1 world.
While Jordan competed with Briartoll, his recent interaction with the current Paddock came from his role as a critic who had worked for British television since 2009.
“I’m sorry to hear that Eddie Jordan has passed away sadly,” posted Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner. “Eddie is a very colorful character and we first met in 1991 as a young driver at his new factory after his first year in Formula 1.
“When I entered Formula 1, I was lucky enough to overlap with him. He was in Twilight in a career race in Formula 1 (in fact, he tried to sell my team!), but he went to other media activities that were always full of energy and fun.
“On behalf of Oracle Red Bull Racing, we express our sincere sadness to Marie and our children. Our thoughts are with them.”
Since 2005, Jordanian outfits have evolved through multiple different identities, becoming the current Aston Martin team, with owner Lawrence taking a walk with another respect.
“Eddie Jordan was a true racer, a great leader and one of the biggest characters in our sport,” Stroll said. “He is a friend I’ve known for over 30 years and I’ll miss him a lot. My thoughts, and everyone at Aston Martin, are with his family and friends.”
Andy Cowell, the current principal of the Aston Martin team, described Jordan as “one of the greatest motorsports greats of all time.”
“He was a one-off person, a great person, a charismatic leader who founded this team and won it in Formula 1 in 1991,” Cowell said. “His vision has laid the foundation for us and leaves a lasting legacy throughout the motorsports community. Today, we pay tribute to sports legends and our ideas lie in his family, friends and colleagues.”
Cowell was one of several team bosses to pay homage to, including McLaren’s Zak Brown and James Vowles, principal of the Williams team.
“Everything about McLaren is deeply saddened to hear of Eddie Jordan’s passing,” Brown said. “Eddie was a vibrant figure who always wore a mind on his sleeve. His passion for Formula 1 is enormous and he leaves an incredible legacy. All our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
“I am deeply saddened to hear of Eddie’s passing,” Bowles added. “He was a bigger than life character who changed our sporting course for the better. He was a great independent leader working among the sports giants.
“Rest in peace, Eddie, my thoughts are with your family and your loved ones.”
