Federico Chiesa hopes to stay at Liverpool Football Club in the near future.
Despite reports of Italian international returning to their homeland, the footballer is determined to push it out to Merseyside.
The 27-year-old arrived in Anfield on a bargain price of £10 million (a package totaling £12.5 million including add-ons) in hopes of rekindling his once-impressive playing career.
Chiesa has so far been impressed with the Flash, earning four goal contributions in 11 appearances in the 2024/25 season.
Federico Chiesa struggles with injuries
For the former Fiorentina star, it wasn’t exactly smooth sailing (already welcomed by former boss Paulo Sousa as “incredible talent”).
Liverpool knew they hadn’t caught and sealed off the bargains. Since suffering an ACL injury in January 2022, the attackers have missed 86 games for the club and country.
season | Missed games (clubs and countries) |
2021/22* (excluding issues before ACL damage) | 45 |
2022/23 | 16 |
2023/24 | 11 |
2024/25 (Liverpool) | 14 |
It is worth highlighting that injuries and fitness-related absences have seen a significant recession from that point on.
Arne Slot appears to be working hard to get Federico Chiesa back to first-team football. The Liverpool head coach certainly could be forgiven given that his only summer signature hasn’t rediscovered the eye-opening Euro 2020 form.
Liverpool should check for improvements
There was nothing valuable to suggest that No. 14 was unhappy with much of his life. Certainly, Chiesa’s father supports reports that players want opportunities at Anfield.
Liverpool, likewise, doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to classify previous Juventus as forwards in the upcoming transfer window.
That’s not to suggest that the Reds won’t need to strengthen their forward line in the near future.
The Egyptians scored 38.57% (27 goals) this semester, and the goal burden is undoubtedly on Mo Salah’s shoulders.
If Chiesa wants to stay on Merseyside for years to come, he needs to prove that his body can be his go-to. Then it’s the question of whether he can remove pressure from his Egyptian counterpart.
