Team Vertu’s Tom Ingram welcomed the Hyundai i30n’s performance after taking pole-to-pole position in qualifying at Croft at the UK Touring Car Championship on Saturday.
Ingram arrives later in the season and sits on a 10-point ad-lift from championship leader Ash Sutton, but is poised to close that gap significantly after shattering an existing qualifying lap record for more than half a second.
The bid for the Hyundai I30N driver to close the point gap will be further aided by Sutton’s Napalasford starting race 1 from 11th place.
Having passed all the sessions on his way to his 12th career BTCC pole, Ingram paid tribute to the many improvements made to Hyundai during his mid-season break.
“I’m really happy with it, but we know that a big point is being awarded tomorrow,” Ingram said.
“If you got one of these (the Paul Position Goodyear Wingfoot Awards) at the end of Saturday, you know you had a good day. The car feels great as always.
“We worked hard to make sure we could do it as quickly as possible on Saturday.
