Aston Villa is expected to be in the market for new goalkeepers this summer, with Emi Martinez expected to leave. The World Cup winner has attracted a lot of attention from Saudi Arabia, but he is being sought to replace star Andre Onana, who was also caught up in Man United.
Martinez’s departure will be a major blow to Aston Villa. He has been the best performer of recent seasons. They expect a sale to take place and if it is done, they will need a replacement. At this stage, a list of targets has been created. And on that list is the Premier League goalkeeper.
Aston Villa adds Aaron Ramsdale to its goalkeeper list
Former scout Mick Brown told Soccer Insider that Aston Villa views Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale as an option to replace Martinez.
“If Aston Villa loses a goalkeeper, they need to be replaced. They already have a lot of targets in mind, which won’t surprise them.
“They have a list of options to choose from. I think Aaron Ramsdale is there. There are a lot of clubs interested in Ramsdale as he will be available. He has this release clause in his contract.
“If Martinez leaves, they really want a top-level option to replace him because he’s going to be a big mistake. Ramsdale will decide if it’s them, but they were certainly looking for it.”
It is still unknown who will get Aston Villa when its departure for Martinez. They have a strong interest in Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, but the number of clubs after the Spaniards may make Ramsdale more achievable.
