MLB Insider Bob Knightgale explained why the White Sox are interested in getting Outman from the .
“I think that’s why they’re so intrigued by James Outman,” KnightEngale told Doug McCain on Dugout Live. “Outman probably needs a change in scenery. He needs to play every day, so who knows? He can be that type of player in Chicago and elsewhere. And I’m sure they want something more from the ().
Outman was a rookie year with the throughout the 2023 season. He ended the campaign with an average of .248 batting, 23 home runs, 70 RBIs and 3.3 wars.
Last season, Outman struggled hard as he hit .147 and only 20 hits in 53 games. The outfielder didn’t make a postseason roster and was demoted earlier that year.
This spring, Outman had the opportunity to regain his starting center field spot, but manager Dave Roberts was honest about the 27-year-old’s struggle at the plate.
“Early, he looked really comfortable with a slightly revamped swing,” Roberts said. “But now he’s shaking and missing a lot. I don’t know if he’s pressing or not. He doesn’t look comfortable.”
Outman chose Triple A after the ‘ trip to Tokyo, but appears to have attracted interest from other teams early in the season.
This season, Oklahoma City has hit .169 with four home runs and 13 RBIs in 77 at-bats.
