Liverpool is being tilted to get a chance to return to Crystal Palace Central Defender Marc Guech this January.
England International was the Reds’ top target for the summer, and the contract arrived very close before the palace was late cancelled.
Catch off side I understand that when Liverpool becomes free agent next summer, they are confident that Liverpool will sign Gehi.
However, it is also possible that the January move is something to watch, as the palace may have one last chance to win cash for players.
That told Soccer Insider, according to former scout Mick Brown, that if the club were to try to sign Gehi in the middle of the season, his asking price would be in the £40 million area.
Mark Guehee can be used in January with a bargain transfer fee
Discussing Guehi’s situation, Brown suggested that this potential “doodle” could be used by Liverpool and other clubs if Liverpool and other clubs decide to pursue it this winter.
“Obviously, a lot of clubs are interested in signing Guehi,” Brown said.
“Yes, I don’t think it’s impossible for him to move on in January because Crystal Palace doesn’t want to lose him, but maybe someone comes in for £40-50 million and they’ll do that.”
“Liverpool is outpacing the fees they willing to pay, but the £35 million in the summer is different from £35 million when they rely on captains half the way through the season.
“So, it takes a little big offer to get it done, but if someone tells you you can sign England’s first choice centre-back for £40 million in this market, you take off their hands and it’s a bargain.”
Liverpool may not be keen to pay more than £35 million that they mostly signed.
Still, Arne Slot’s side can probably be strengthened in the back after leaking many goals at the start of this campaign, so it may be worth paying to ensure that Guehi’s signatures are not able to beat them up if the other clubs become free agents.
