Hardik Pandya misses the team’s opening match of the IPL 2025 season with one match suspension. He was banned in the 2024 season after multiple late excessive violations. The Mumbai team violated the slow, excess rate rule for the third time in the previous edition.

At a press conference on Wednesday, March 19, Hardik said that Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack had been strengthened. He highlighted that they acquired Torrent Vault and Deepak Chahar to ensure that the team has an experienced bowling lineup that can handle high pressure situations.

“Getting a Trent Bourto was very important to us. Deepak Chahar too. We wanted an experienced bowling lineup, so we have players who felt it when pressure came,” Pandya said (as quoted by the Mumbai Indians X-Account).

Trent Ball played for the Mumbai Indians in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, earning 38 wickets in 29 matches. The 35-year-old New Zealand Pacer was acquired by Rajasthan Royals at the 2022 Mega Auction for 8 Kroules.

Boult is scheduled to return to MI after the franchise secured him at 12.50 crore at the 2025 mega auction. The left-arm pacer boasts an impressive IPL record with 121 wickets in 104 matches.

A lot has changed – Hardik Pandia

Hardik Pandya is optimistic about the upcoming IPL 2025 season. He emphasized the positive atmosphere within the team, adding that a lot has changed.

“This year is a fresh year. A lot has changed and a lot of love and joy has been added. There is always a passion, new challenge I love. The important part for me is helping the team add value to the team. I’m here!” Pandia added.

Mumbai Indians will launch an IPL 2025 campaign against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepork Stadium on March 23rd. After its last end in the 2024 season, Michigan strengthened its team with international stars such as Trent Bourto, Deepak Chahar and Mitchell Santner.

MI has not won an IPL title since 2020. He reached the playoffs in 2023, but was knocked out by the Gujarat Titans in Qualifying 2.

With a strong team on paper, Pandya is under pressure to bring results in the upcoming season. If MI endures another poor campaign, his captaincy could be scrutinized.
