Shrayas Iyer hits under No. 4 for KKR
His previous Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise – Kolkata Knight Rider (KKR) – Shreiyas Iyer usually had to hit fourth and drop down to No. 5 or No. 6 whenever a situation was requested.
He didn’t have an extraordinary season with KKR’s bats at IPL 2024. He averaged 39 and scored on a strike rate of 351 runs and 146.86, but he showed exceptional leadership skills and led his team to a title victory.
Iyer wanted to do the same thing as King Punjab (PBK) to help the league’s biggest performers lift their first IPL trophies and end the title drought.
If you want to mark yourself in some position on T20, it will be number 3 – Shrayas Iyer
Having established himself as one of the best No. 4 batters in ODIS, Iyer said he hopes to hit third in the Indian Premier League and T20 cricket as long as his coaches approve it.
“We already know that the IPL is an integral part of India’s cricket, and if I want to mark myself in any position in the T20, it will be number three,” the PBKS skipper said at a press conference.
“That’s what I’m focusing on. I’m not planning and thinking about the numbers I’ll bat. This time, I’m very clear about that position. And I’ll focus on that number, as long as the coach approves me.”
I was desperate to work with Shreyas Ayer again – Ricky Ponting
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings (PBK) head coach Ricky Ponting said he is eager to work with Shreya Aier in his decent first stint at Delhi Capitals (DC).
“Looking back at the auction, I think it was pretty clear to everyone who wanted to be captain,” Ponting said.
“And we got what we wanted. I was eager to work with Shureya again. We had a great working relationship in Delhi for a long time. He is one of the best players I’ve worked with.
“We probably have the best leaders we can hope for, and we’ve had a lot of great times and success together. I think we really understand each other. You know, the captain coach relationship of any team is essential.”
