Ireland’s captain Kellan Doris will be on the sidelines for up to six months after undergoing shoulder surgery, clubside Rainster said Monday.
The 27-year-old was injured in the semi-finals of Rainster’s European Rugby Champions Cup with the Northampton Saints earlier this month.
Doris, who was competing with Malo Itoge for the captain of the British and Ireland Lions, was removed from Andy Farrell’s 38-man team to tour Australia.
“Kaelan Doris proceeded with the procedure for a shoulder injury last Friday, so we’ll make sure he doesn’t take action for four to six months,” Rainster said in a statement.
Doris missed Ireland’s tests against Georgia and Portugal in July, and is suspicious of a November match against New Zealand, Japan, Australia and South Africa.
