Israeli Adesanya is not going to wait for Sean Strickland.
Former two-time UFC middleweight champion Adesanya is currently on the worst run of his career, losing the past three fights. The beginning of that lost streak was his shocking upset loss against Strickland at UFC 293, and he dropped the title in one of the biggest turmoils in recent title history. Since then, the idea of a rematch between Adesanya and Strickland has been regularly popping up as an option, but recently gathered new steam when Adesanya began calling games this year. However, there is no movement on that front line and “The Last Stylebender” says he is moving forward.
“I’m not surprised,” Adesanya said. Submitted radio. “If you want to do something right, try it first. That’s the lesson I learned. And he does other things in his own life. He made the money he wants to make. But like me, I don’t want to wait either.
“So I’ll fight – we’ll see. I just want to fight, but we’ll see.”
Strickland is still not the biggest run. Following the title victory over Adesanya, the controversial fighter removed the title of Doricus du Plysis in his next match, winning a few months later Paulo Costa’s inactive decision, losing again to Du Plysis earlier this year.
In addition to that, Strickland was also suspended by the Nevada Athletics Board for attacking fighters while coaching at the Tuff-n-off event in June. The Strickland suspension expires on December 29th, but can be reduced in mid-October once the committee has completed an angry management course approved by the committee.
Either way, the delay and lack of interest in Strickland’s rematch have focused on one of the myriad other middleweight candidates by Adesanya.
“No doubt,” Adesanya said about fighting Anthony Hernandez probably. “I’m just ready for everyone and everyone.”
