MADRID – Italian teenager Federicosina won her second ATP Masters 1000 victory in a straight set at the Madrid Open on Wednesday, beating Coleman Wong in a straight set.
The 18-year-old Sheena won 7-6 (5), 6-1 in support of her current victory over the 70 Francisco Cameana in Miami last month. He saved the breakpoint he faced against Wong and finished with 19 winners.
“I’m very pleased with this victory,” said Sheena, who is 373 rank, who plays as a wild card. “I was a little tight before the match, but after a few games I started to feel better. Winning a match in this event is really special.”
Sheena will then face American Sebastian Korda. He lost his second match in Miami to Grigor Dimitrov.
Sheena lost in a straight set to Belgian Rafael Corignon in the opening match at the Challenger Event held in Monza, Italy earlier this month.
Also on Wednesday, Portugal’s Nuno Borges gathered to defeat the house’s crowd favorites, Pablo Carreno Busta 6-7 (7), 7-6 (3), and 6-3.
Arthur Linderkneck beat Roman Saffiurin 7-6 (4), 6-1, while Christopher O’Connell passed Kamilo Ugo Calabelli 6-3, 6-4.
In the women’s first round at the clay court tournament, Americans Katy Volinette, Alicia Parks and Bernarda Perra all made advances in straight sets.
The Volynets beat three Madrid Open Champion Petra Kvitova 6-4, 6-0, and qualifying Pera passed Jana Fett 6-4, 6-3. Parks overcame Victoria Zimenez Kasinzeva 6-3, 6-3.
Maria Sakkari defeated Xinyu Wang 6-4, 7-6 (7).
