Luke Corne has signed a four-year, $41 million contract with the San Antonio Spurs to leave the Boston Celtics.
Luke Kornet tested free agency following a four-and-a-half year stint with the Boston Celtics, including the championship during the 2023-24 NBA season.
Cornett led the bench role for the Celtics, but he was a veteran in the locker room. Clearly, the younger core of the San Antonio Spurs is expected to benefit from his arrival.
Former Spurs member Derrick White knows one or two things about the organization, as he recently worked on Cornett’s departure from the Celtics.
“I hate seeing him leave, but you’re so happy he’s got what he deserves. I think San Antonio will love him,” White said on the White Noise podcast.
Additionally, White believes the Spurs will use the cornet along with Victor Wenbanyama.
White added: “They are probably going to play Wenby with him.
“And he’s a guy who knows how to play the game the right way. You want to play it together.”
Kornet averaged 6.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game last season in C. He also shot an astonishing 66.8% off the field.
Kornet has never averaged double-digit points, rebounds or assists, but has already carved out an eight-year career in the NBA.
Kornet manages to do so by not following statistics, and White believes it is the greatest quality of a 30 year old.
“He makes the game easier for you, because he doesn’t want the ball on the block. He doesn’t want statistics.
“He’s not hunting statistics, so I think he’ll have a good time in San Antonio,” White concluded.
Veteran centers don’t hunt statistics, but when the team needs it, he can still deliver a big night.
