Jeff Teague talked about the LA Clippers signing Bradley Beale in free agency and how another signature could be signed as a candidate.
The LA Clippers have done an incredible job dealing with flaws on their roster this offseason. The franchise appears to be committed to competing for next season’s championship.
After extending James Harden’s Clippers contract, the front office worked to bring some important pieces to the team.
The Clippers traded Norman Powell to land John Collins in an unexpected three-team deal. Given how Powell played last season, his departure didn’t appear on the cards for many Clippers fans and analysts.
The Clippers also made Brooke Lopez the backup for Ivica Zubac in another strong business. The Clippers had to make another move as there was a gap left in the shooting guard at Powell’s exit.
And that’s what they did when the Clippers signed former All-Star Bradley Beal after his acquisition of the Phoenix Suns. Jeff Teague praised the move, but warned the Clippers that they needed another move to do the job.
Former NBA champion Jeff Teague spoke about the LA Clippers signing Bradley Beale on his Club 520 podcast.
He likes this move, but Teague is wary of the beer fitting into the Clippers. However, if the Clippers can sign Chris Paul as rumors suggest, the veteran point guards can help make things work for them.
“I’m happy with him (beer) and I’m happy with the Phoenix Suns… he can go to a team that plays winning basketball (the Clippers) and I don’t know if that’s the best.
“I love it if they get CP3. If they get CP, I love it. If they don’t get CP, I don’t know… They got a team. But I’m just thinking… If they don’t have CP, that doesn’t work.
“We love James Harden, but they need someone (someone else) other than James Harden.
With the arrival of Bradley Beal, the LA Clippers will give the starting shooting guard ahead of the new season. But there is one major problem.
The Clippers, who start James Harden and Bradley Beale backcourts, sound like a massive defensive responsibility. Even at its best, neither player is particularly strong defender.
As both Clipper stars are past Prime now, they must also consider the role they play as team leaders.
In particular, Beal has gained a negative reputation in the NBA for being a selfish player. His Suns shed light on the lack of a victory basketball impact.
With the Clippers, Beer needs to make sure he spills this reputation. The previous All-Star is a natural scorer.
But for the Clippers, he must make sure he is defensively prioritized in the coming months, so he can set the standard for younger players on the team competing for the NBA Championship.
