Too Big to Come Back? UFC Fighters Says Islam Makhachev’s Cut to 155 Could Be Done After Welterweight Move
SHARE

Beneh Dalyush does not see Islamic Makachev returning to lighter weight after moving to 170.

The moment Jack Della Maddalena was crowned the new Welterweight World Champion at UFC 315, Islam Makachev made his intentions known on social media. “Dagestani Destroyer” declared he would challenge the weight class to challenge JDM for the 170 pound crown.

As a result, Makhachev vacated a lightweight title he held and defended for nearly three years.

It remains to be seen whether he has succeeded in his goal of becoming a two-division champion, but Dalyush believes he has seen Makhachev’s finale compete for 155 pounds regardless of the outcome.

“I think a guy like Volkanovski is the one who does that because when he was running he was fighting every three or four months,” Dariush said on the interby on the submission radio. “He was able to keep both belts and continue to fight in both divisions. I think it’s really hard for him to go back to 155 once Islam reaches 170. I think his body will grow a little bit bigger.

“Wear a couple – the weight doesn’t need to be too much like a 3-4 pound muscle – it’s going to be difficult to get down to 155.

Dalyush believes that the Beral ground game will be soon with Islamic Makachev

Makhachev’s welterweight venture ultimately resulted in the headliner of UFC 315 between Beral Muhammad and Della Madalena. If Muhammad had won, Makachev would remain lightweight due to a long lost conflict with former featherweight Ilia Topria.

Instead, he tries to end JDM’s reign before it actually begins.

“People say that the Beral grappling is not the same as Makhachev’s, but I don’t know how true that is,” Darysh said. “I know they are stylistically different. Makhachev has more judo in Sambo’s background and stuff like that and his game, but Beral has great wrestling.

Beral isn’t the kind of guy who really does a lot of shots, but he’s the guy who rules over you, stands up against the fence, takes you to the clinch and does the job of defeating you. He couldn’t do that with JDM… JDM looked amazing and he performed great. ”
