Jacques Villeneuve discovered that communication between Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton was “a little strange” during the F1 Austrian Grand Prix.
Ferrari enjoyed a positive display when the Red Bull Ring finished third and fourth.
Charles Leclerc is close to 20 seconds to race winner Rand Norris, but secured his fourth podium.
Hamilton finished nine seconds behind his teammates, comparing his best results in the 2025 F1 season so far.
The seven-time world champion appears to have been completely unsatisfied with Ferrari’s decision to take him to the end of his 50th lap.
Hamilton asked to “expand” his stint as he was running ahead of Leclerc, who had just made his second and final pit stop.
When asked by race engineer Riccardedadami, he replied: “I don’t want to stop.”
This is not the first time a Ferrari driver has opposed a strategy choice.
Leclerc pushed for a one-stop strategy in Montreal, but was ignored.
Villeneuve put his views on the situation and stated in his Instagram story:
“This time it was Leclerc from Montreal by Lewis Hamilton. This is a bit strange.”
McLaren Duel: Amazing Show
The first part of the Austrian race was exciting as the McLaren pair fought for the lead.
Villeneuve declared it a “great show” and was pleased that McLaren allowed Norris and Oscar Piastri to race.
“It was a slightly different race. Clearly McLaren was ahead of the opposition, but it was a big fight from two drivers. They fought it from the last lap to the end.
“It’s not a good day for Red Bull, who made a rookie mistake with Antonelli on Verstappen. He should have known about that hairpin on his first lap. He’s in F2.
“But even the experienced driver made that mistake, he learns from it. Boltreto did great things too, Lawson was amazing. It was a great fight with Alonso in the end. A great fight to keep that seventh position.
