The Orlando Magic added two major offseasons this summer. Desmondbane is expected to fit well with established culture as they compete in the Eastern Conference.
The magic made the first big move of the NBA offseason, but it didn’t wait until the NBA Finals had a huge hit trade with Desmond Bain’s Memphis Grizzlies.
Over the past two seasons, Orlando has been one of the best defensive teams in the league, but he has also struggled to shoot three balls. Bane is a capable, if not a good defender, and is one of the best mass shooting games in the league.
The only concern about adding Bane is how he fits into the core of Paolo Banchelo, Jalen Saggs and Franz Wagner’s magical cement. Coach Jammer Mosley quickly pointed out how he built a roster centered around a sense of brotherhood.
The on-court fit with Bane is very clear, but there is little room for risk in the magic. The Eastern Conference is as widespread as ever, and magic is generally considered to be the top three teams at the meeting for the first time since Dwight Howard was on the roster.
Make it clear that Bane fits and there’s no room for error is Orlando’s number one priority.
“These people will continue to stay connected throughout the summer,” Mosley said. “They reached out and they texted each other.
“They maintain that connection, and I think it is very important for this group just to continue the chemistry of what this group has accumulated to this point.
The Magic clearly has one of the best young cores in the NBA, but they haven’t yet managed to get over the Hump and win the playoff series. After spending the first five seasons of his Memphis career, Bane discovers that his team’s success is limited, but he still comes to Orlando as an experienced player.
“He understands what you need to win the high levels you have, the chemistry, the friendship and the real-life conversations you have every day,” Mosley continued.
Magic added Bane as a centerpiece moving forward, but he isn’t an offseason addition that is expected to play a major role in Orlando’s success.
Bane is the best player whose magic has added this offseason. In the trade to take him to Orlando, they lost backup point guard Cole Anthony, but they quickly replaced him with Ty Jones in free agency.
Jones is known for always getting closer to the top in assist-to-turnover ratios, and he is one of the better backup guards in the league. On top of that, he appears to have personal connections with almost everyone on the roster.
“You have to think about it, he’s played with Desmond for years,” Mosley pointed out. “He knows Paulo for his Duke connections. He’s from Minnesota, where Jalen Thugs was originally from. He’s an old Minnesota head. And wendell is in Duke.”
The magic, a star and role player famous for making everyone around him better, must be one of his favorites to win in the East, especially as they did not compromise their defense at all to improve their attacks.
