Jamie Carragher insisted Arsenal could win this season’s Champions League after the Gunners beat Atletico Madrid 4-0 on Tuesday. ”
Arsenal’s victory was a clear one as they convincingly defeated Diego Simeone’s side.
Atlético Madrid are said to be a defensive powerhouse, but the Gunners showed no mercy, winning 4-0 with goals from Gabriel, Victor Gyokeres and Gabriel Martinelli.
Arsenal’s credibility in Europe is even stronger. Their resounding victory against Atlético highlighted not only their tactical maturity but also their change in mindset from challengers to genuine competitors.
Carragher said performances like this were a signal and stressed that Arsenal were no longer Champions League participants, but genuine contenders.
Jamie Carragher calls Arsenal hopefuls to win Champions League
According to Metro Sport, Carragher feels Arsenal’s defensive quality could be a factor in their success in this season’s Champions League.
He compared the current Arsenal team to the 2005 Liverpool team that won the Champions League and of which Carragher was also part.
Mr Carragher said:
“Looking at this team now, you can see how strong they are defensively. The Liverpool team that won the Champions League wasn’t a great attacking team, but they were strong defensively.
“It always gives you a chance, especially in the knockout stages or when you get into a two-way game. If you have a strong defense, you always have a chance.”
So I think Arsenal are one of the four or five teams that can win this competition. ”
The Gunners have a well-balanced team this season.
From a team perspective, Arsenal have assembled the pillars they need to compete at the highest level.
Importantly, they also added depth at the defensive positions. The signing of Cristian Mosquera gives them a new option in the centre-back position.
As for the left-back position, Riccardo Calafiori and Miles Lewis-Skelly are both capable enough to claim a starting position.
Julian Timber and Ben White are both competing for the right-back position.
This team is balanced, offering both safety at the rear and innovation forward.
In 12 games this season, the Gunners have kept an astonishing nine clean sheets.
