Bukayo Saka’s performance reaffirmed his growing importance to Arsenal, putting him back in the spotlight and earning him glowing praise from pundit Jamie Redknapp, who described the England international as “irreplaceable”.
The honor came after Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Fulham, where Saka’s influence went beyond statistics.
Manager Redknapp said that despite having other better players in the team, Saka’s presence and quality put him ahead of the rest.
Arsenal’s road trip to Craven Cottage was by no means perfect, with Fulham’s compact shape giving the Gunners few chances and the chances that did come their way were difficult to create.
But Saka stood out. The 24-year-old was given the captain’s armband in Martin Odegaard’s absence and has taken charge of his role both on and off the field.
Arsenal star Bukayo Saka praises performance
As reported by GOAL, Redknapp told Sky Sports:
“Don’t get me wrong, of course they have players who can play on that side, but he’s the guy. And that’s what I’m talking about today when I talk about being a leader.”
The critic added: “He’s not Tony Adams as a captain, but he’s grown to be a part of the game, winning games by the scruff of his neck when the team was struggling and didn’t have enough flow.”
Manager Redknapp had special praise for Saka: “As the game progressed, he was just starting to win individual matches. He was great. I feel that if they can keep him healthy, that will be a big key for them. Of course there are other players, (William) Saliba, Gabriel, but I feel Saka is irreplaceable.”
Jamie Redknapp was impressed with Saka’s performance
In Redknapp’s view, Saka is no longer just an exciting young star, he has transformed into Arsenal’s essential leader.
Craven Cottage’s display provided a clear glimpse into why Saka’s subtle but decisive influence shone through when the game was tense, spaces collapsing and chances sparse.
Arsenal fans may still want to know more in terms of raw numbers, but for observers like Redknapp, the intangibles are already visible.
