MIAMI Gardens, Fla. — Jasmine Paolini is heading for the Miami Open semi-finals for the first time.
Sixth seeded Paolini defeated Poland’s unseeded Magdalinette 6-3, 6-2 on Tuesday, becoming the first woman to make the final four of the tournament this year.
Parini is the first Italian woman to make the semi-finals in Miami. There are six instances where Italian women are making the quarter finals, most recently Martina Trevisan in 2023.
Paolini will face one of China’s ninth seed Qinwen Zheng in the semi-finals. The Sabalenka-Zheng quarterfinals were scheduled late Tuesday night after rains postponed many of the day’s matches for several hours.
The opposite side of the women’s bracket is set for a quarter-final match on Wednesday, with US fourth seed Jessica Pegra facing UK Emma Ladakanu and second seed Iga Swiatek facing Philippines’ Alexandra Eerra.
