Augusta, Ga. — Jason Day, who turned his head a lot with outfit options in his master’s degree last year, said he’s not wearing such a bold ensemble after Augusta National flaunted a more modest look this week.
Australia’s former world No. 1, who left Nike in early 2024 to join Malbon Golf, was ready for his first major this week, but had to make changes afterwards.
“We did it, but we cut everything in half,” said Tuesday, 37-year-old. “It’s something we’re supposed to wear and they said it’s a little more, but that’s fine.
“We had to send it. I think I’m on a short list of people who have to send their scripts now. I got it. It was a little bit on Thursday.”
At the 2024 Masters, Day appeared in baggy blue pants and a loud sweater vest featuring “No. 313. Malbon Golf Championship,” and completed the first round on Friday, along with Tiger Woods.
But when he showed up in the second round later that day, the best was gone. He later said that the tournament organizers asked him to remove the clothes.
Day, who finished runner-up in his Masters debut in 2011, said he made his 14th start this week at Augusta National, and didn’t want to change his outfit and distract him.
“That’s fine. I understand. We’re here for the tournament,” Day said. “This is why we come in April every year. We’re here to play tournaments. I understand.
