The Dallas Mavericks had an incredible offseason, closing off by drafting Duke’s star player Cooper Flag as the number one overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Nico Harrison is on the receiving end of criticism from many around the NBA world due to his decision to trade Luka Donsic from the Dallas Mavericks.
Things got worse after trading Donsic as the team suffered numerous injuries with Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford and Derek Lively II.
But they found some form of joy when it was announced that the Mavericks had the number one pick in the draft despite having only a 1.8% chance.
There was no question about who the team would draft first, as Cooper Flags were available. His talented players with the Mavericks will soon become a difficult aspect to beat them.
The 18-year-old received an introductory press conference as a Mavericks player on Friday, but it was revealed that Jason Kidd already has big plans for the talented Maine native.
Of the many issues Mavs has, one of them is the point guard position, and now Irving Out is being plundered as injured.
The nine-time All-Star has signed an incredible three-year deal that will help save some money for the Mavs, but his return to the franchise is unknown as he fell from an ACL injury at the end of last season.
While the team searched for options in that position, Kidd emerged the challenge of playing the Rookie Sensation Flag in that position.

“From my past experience in this seat, it’s not incredible to just sit here and listen to him, we’re talking about an 18-year-old who has all the right answers and talks about exercising after this,” Kidd said.
“When you talk about his gift, he’s a basketball player and he’s the winner. I thought he’d answered the full position.
“I want to put him in the point guard, but I want to see how he can make him uncomfortable and react to him so he can run the show and play two.
LeBron James pointed out how Flag is blessed with the virtue of having Hall of Fame around him.
Davis, Irving, Klay Thompson and others have been in the league for over a decade and have won championships.
Flag certainly has a game that adds quality to his roster, but he can also pick up a lot from his legendary teammates.
Speaking about his playing for the Beteran Stacked team, Flag said:
The five start five when Irving returns to action will look fiery and will certainly scare the other teams in the Western Conference.
position | player |
Point Guard | Kyrie Irving |
Shooting Guard | Clay Thompson |
A small front | Cooper Flag |
Power Forward | Anthony Davis |
center | Daniel Gafford |
Flag averaged 19.2 ppg and 7.5 rpg, and was also a 1.4 block defensive presence.
He brings all of that to Mavs, where he aims to lead them to the championship in his time.
