Former NBA player Jeff Teague doesn’t believe Mike Brown is a game-changing appointment for the New York Knicks.
Mike Brown is set to be named the new head coach of the New York Knicks. Following two interviews, Brown will replace Tom Thibodeau.
The decision to fire Tom Thibodeau comes after the Knicks, who lost to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, put together a regular season with 51 wins.
Brown has a lot of experience, but was fired by the Sacramento Kings midway through last season.
There are two camps when it comes to news that will replace Thibodeaux in the New York Knicks.
On one side, Brown can be considered an open-minded coach than a stiff Thibodeau and can be built on a very solid foundation. Paul Pierce is one of Brown’s supporters.
On the other side, Brown is considered an overwhelming capture, with Stephen A. Smith claiming that the move is “no sizzle.”
Former player Jeff Teague agrees, claiming on his Club 520 podcast that Brown cannot lift the Knicks and become a 60-winning team.
He said: “They will probably win 50 games. They will be on the same team.”
Brown is an assistant to four championship-winning teams and reached the finals only once in 2007 as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Jeff Teague adds that he has been connected by many NBA stars around the league and has not heard any excitement about Mike Brown from talking to players.
He also used LeBron James to make the claim, claiming that Ty Lou was the only coach to hear the superstar praise.
Teague said: “I have never really heard of a lot of people like Mike Brown, they haven’t said they aren’t.
“I’ve never heard of Mike Brown saying it was incredible. Ty Lou, that’s the only coach I’ve heard him speak.”
James reached out to praise Brown after winning the Sacramento Kings and Coach of the Year, expressing his misfortune about his firing last season.
It remains to be seen whether Mike Brown or LeBron James is strongly aware of pursuing a reunion in New York.
