2009 Formula 1 champion Jenson Button considers Oscar Piastri to be “worst teammate” as he can’t get under his skin.
Piastri sits at the top of the 2025 F1 driver’s rankings heading for the UK’s Grand Prix on Sunday.
The Australian is 15 points ahead of his teammate Randnoris in the championship.
Piastri has more victories than Norris, who had up until recently had been littered with mistakes.
It is widely accepted that Norris has a slight advantage in raw speed, but Piastri’s calmness makes him a formidable competitor.
Speaking at Sky’s F1 show after FP2 on Friday, Button praised Piastri for how Piastri responds to adversity.
“With Oscar, he’s coming back strong after a tough weekend,” Button explained. “He’s very calm. For me, Oscar will be the worst teammate because you can’t rattle him. That’s really tough.
“But the Rand is so fast, they have pros and cons.”
Is Norris a faster F1 driver?
Norris produced a master class at the Austrian Grand Prix last time, attacking the pole for over 0.5 seconds.
Given the short nature of the Red Bull Ring, it was Norris’ strong efforts, which had struggled with a round of 2025.
Norris dismantled his teammate’s head-to-head piastry in last year’s qualifying round, winning 20-4.
This year, they are already 6-5 in the Grand Prix Qualifier, courtesy of Piastri.
Despite current eligible statistics, Ex-F1 driver David Coulthard feels that Piastri doesn’t have the ultimate raw speed of Norris.
“In fact, I don’t think he has a one-lap pace compared to Rand,” Courhard said after Austria.
