The New York Knicks are expected to make major changes to their roster following the Eastern Conference finals in the 2025 NBA Playoffs.
Step one was completed with a shooting from head coach Tom Thibodeau, but that’s just the beginning of what’s expected to be a busy offseason for the Knicks.
The second step is reportedly targeting superstars like Giannis Antetokounmpo. In potential trade, the Knicks need to make that move a reality to say goodbye to Karl Anthony’s town.
Former NBA player Jermaine O’Neal recently appeared on a NightCap podcast with Shannon Sharpe.
During the interview, O’Neill talked about the Knicks, who may be swapping towns this summer. The former NBA center urged the Knicks to reconsider their decision.
“I don’t like them trading cats. I get it and he doesn’t protect well, but he’s not like everything else they have.
“If he really looked in the mirror and said every time I took my a__ to that box, I’m working correctly.
He added: “If he really reaches that dominant form, he’s everything Nick needs and obviously might add a few more pieces there.”
As O’Neill said, if the town can improve his defense, he could become an unruly star for the Knicks. After all, he averaged 24.4 points, 12.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per team game.
Coming to a potential replacement for the town of Antetokounmpo, the Milwaukee Bucks superstar is an astonishing player.
He has been praised for his name, including leading the Bucks to the 2021 NBA Championship. Despite that surprising resume, O’Neill urged the Knicks to avoid the Greek freak deal.
“I like the Knicks and Cat. I don’t like the Knicks and Giannis. I like Cat. I like him. Do you think Giannis and Branson can play together?
Most nights Jalen Brunson was the Knicks’ No. 1 scoring option throughout the 2024-25 season. But Branson is demanding the ball in his hand to make things happen for the team.
O’Neal feels that Antetokounmpo also has a similar playing style to Branson.
